THE ST. AUGUSTINE LIGHTHOUSE BEAMS

Clearwater, FL

A history lesson was never this much fun! The blinking light of the St. Augustine Lighthouse is winking in agreement. Visitors to the lighthouse museum are captivated by a program wrapping over one hundred years of history into an interactive experience.

Silver Image Interactive, Inc. produced a CD-ROM and interactive touchscreen program for the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum. The program is rich with photos dating from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. Original art, animation, music and narration offer a variety of experiences, including an interactive story, "Telling Tall Tale", a rhyming lightkeeper's workday timeline, oral histories from individuals who had lived in the lighthouse as children and a snappy little seagull who generously provides his "bird's eye view" commentary.

The program, shown in a touchscreen kiosk, is also available for sale in the museum's gift shop. The funding for the project was in part through the Florida Humanities Council and the production was awarded to Silver Image through the Junior Service League of St. Augustine. Guglielmo and Associates, Inc., the exhibit designer, assisted Silver Image with program development.
